Event Ideas and Thoughts

What I want t do is something small, but fun that can incorporate art and writing in case someone wants to do one or both. Don't wanna start big until we can get our feet wet and the section back up and running. Anyone got any ideas for something small outside the example of a bigger one.




This would probably be somewhere around the 20th of April since its a little bigger.

Theme: Spring

Sub- Theme: Cute (flowers and or animals is an example)

The rules:

» There will be three categories: Art, GFX and Writing.
»You may submit one piece for EACH category (GFX, art and writing).
»Submit an image, piece of writing or a photograph of your work. THE WORK MUST BE YOURS.
»Judges will vote for which entry they like best.
»All types of skill levels are acceptable and can win.
»GFX are entries in which multiple images have been manipulated to form one images.
»The main theme and sub-theme will change for every monthly battle.
»All entries must be completed by the 20th of each month.
»Winner and runner up will be announced within the week following.
»Expect new challenges to be up at the start of the new month up to the 5th of that month.
»Champion battles will be held every six months.
»Most importantly have fun!

The goodies:
»100 AL points to each winner
»50 AL points to each runner-up
»Winners & runner-ups gets to participate in the champions battle
»Winners of the champion battle gets a nifty badge for bragging rights.

I wanted to start a networking thread and such, that includes networking meetups where the events are hosted live online for those who cannot attend (so people can have a chance to work together on projects so they afford to go to the meetups/ get a job). I was hoping to talk to Mike about this and live viewing events online in general because of the meetups that already happen.

How about a competition where you have to do the best Solo a star wars story crossover fan art.

For example somebody could draw the Han Solo poster but have all the characters from another show/movie. Like adventure time characters but dressed as Han Solo and chewie etc.

Not sure if that sounds stupid haha.

So kinda like a star wars story parody poster competition.

Alright so got some more idea since we already do something with art let's start doing something with writing. There's a bunch of awards so we need to come up with some type of plan and how

Short Story of the Month

Also in advanced we should do one huge event sometime in July and I am open to options so don't be scared to post anything I'm pretty open. THe more new fresh ideas the better I'm we could do something with photography, anything basically.

@PharaohAtem - I'll have a think but maybe we could something for those that have a passion for writing fan fiction. Would a fan fiction of the month be a good idea?

Poem of the Month/ SS of the month used to work I recall. Perhaps Poem or Prose of the Month. Prose gives the option of several written styles if people wanted?

Alternating I guess is a given, but alternate between primarily art based and word based. Generally speaking the non-focused option can still take part, since a lot of the stuff is themed which allows both art and writing to use same prompts.

The challenge with writing options is specifics can alienate people who don't normally/ haven't written in the genre before. I.e I've dabbled in poetry and prose (short story/ novella) but never tried script writing, which makes that daunting. But then again specifics may draw in people who otherwise wouldn't make an attempt if it's compared to different styles?



July event: perhaps instead of a specific prompt, make a more open thing. Say, for writing, entrants find an image and write a poem/Short Story/ Song lyrics/etc based on the image. For Art/Gfx, entrants find a short story/poem and need to submit a drawing/do something with gfx to sum up/ relate to the piece they chose for it? So basically instead of the normal select prompt(s), entrants pick their prompt, and post/link to their 'prompt'?

This is going to sound like mental idea for the july challenge but hear me out

Upside down art challenge
Although drawing upside might sound really daft its actually a great exercise for tapping into your creative side and focus on the shapes and curves since images upside look very different.

-character creation challenge - drawing up, dressing up then taking a photo or writing for a character you have created
-anime league 3 panel comic strip challenge - draw a newpaper comic strip inspired comic strip
