      Re: Musicals

I'm glad they still give snippets of songs on tv to lure you into going to watch the shows live. I've heard that School of Rock is as good as the film, so I'm tempted to give it a go, but could it be good without Jack Black who made the film in a way?

Another one I forgot that was more of a drama but had songs in it, was The Curious Incident of The Dog In The Nighttime. I had to go for that one as it was already one of my top 10 books of all time.

I wanna see School of Rock, it was one of my fave films growing up. But yeah Jack Black made that film. Andrew Lloyd Webber isn't the most rockiest guy though ha ha!

I loved Curious Incident! The set design and staging was phenomenal.

It's amazing how a good piece of work can make you forget about the piece of work that was behind it. Can't stand Lloyd Webber the man, but nobody can doubt the success of his productions. Was forced to watch Jesus Christ Superstar several times through the school years so it became ingrained as the goalpost for any musical thereafter, but Phantom is my favourite. Though to this day I've never seen Starlight Express...

I used to watch the talent shows that Lloyd Webber did and he just came across incredibly creepy ha ha. Incredibly talented but creepy. I do love Phantom and I really wanna see Starlight Express, but i don't like Jesus Christ Superstar.

      Re: Musicals

The Labyrinth musical looks set to be revolutionary if they can pull it off. There will be a lot of Bowie fans expecting from it.

I'd love to see more fantasy based musicals that aren't coming from or have been adapted by Disney. Having said that, I hope out of any of the recent Disney ones, that Coco gets a stage version one day. I'd definitely love to see how they portray that side of Mexican culture.

      Re: Musicals

I'm excited for it but at the same time I don't know whether I'll like it without Bowie in it lol But I enjoyed Lazarus so i'm staying open!

It would be very exciting to see more fantasy! I love to question how things are done on stage and a genre like that I think would give me a lot of those wow moments!

      Re: Musicals

If they haven't done a Hobbit musical already, then Tolkien movies have had some great soundtracks that could be adapted for one. Harry Potter worked better as a serious stage play, but I can definitely see a few Dwarves and Elves breaking into song together!

Something akin to Charlie and The Chocolate Factory would be nice as well. Young Frankenstein did well in the spirit of Gene Wilder, but having his other work on stage would be pure imagination. Still need to see James And The Giant Peach when it comes back around...

There was a Hobbit musical but I don't think it did very well? I saw it years and years ago! I vaguely remember enjoying it lol.

      Re: Musicals

Really? Well I never. Didn't think there'd be a Tolkien official one without the say so of his grandchildren. The only music numbers I remember were the radio version and the soundtrack that contained that famous music video 'The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins' by Leonard Nimoy. That was severely overplayed at most university radio stations every time it was discovered...

I might be tempted to check out Sunshine on Leith. Though it's strange how they're adapting a version from the film, that was adapted from the original musical from Scotland a decade ago. If it has The Proclaimers though in some form, I'm in.

      Re: Musicals

I'll see if I can hunt down the programme tonight! It didn't have a very long run as far as I remember. I have not heard that song but now I want to! ha ha.

I've seen the film version and it was ok. Don't know if i'd go see a stage production of it though.
