really, we could involve the fan fic deal with A&M and maybe even EZ
I've been running a portrait workshop for work and we decided on a rather unusual process for it. There is an interesting way you can draw which involves drawing a portrait upside down. It may sound odd but it's actually a really good exercise for using your creative side of your brain.
So for a more quirky idea, how about we get all the artists to draw something upside down?

drawing upside down is actually a pretty good way to help with your perception, at least from what i've seen in videos, plus the book Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain talks about it a lot (despite the funky right brain left brain things it spouts)
supposedly it's one of those good tools you can use to train your brain to see what it's seeing and not what your mind thinks its seeing, if that makes sense
i think it's a great idea, because people would be really surprised at how well they draw upside down
oh hey, that site you linked mentions that book!
I actually got that idea from that exact book haha
oh that's awesome!
I'm not sure if this idea can translate to the forum but...
My sister is subscribed to a mailing art thing....it's called ArtSnacks...each month they send her maybe 3-5 art supplies and each person subscribed gets the same thing. Then you draw a picture with your 3 items and share it to instagram or something and you see how with the same tools so many different ideas come out.
you can see basically that month was a brush, pencil and pen, and two water color pigments
...Is this something we can do? Maybe like....the theme of the month is a color? AAnd so regardless of what medium you use, you try to work in mainly that color? Or is it just something not really translatable?
thoughts? @Sdbillustrations @omfgzergrugh @Expendable @woostersauce
we could certainly limit allowed tools to draw
writing would have to be more experimental... like... write in the style of e.e. cummings (poet who would flagrantly disregard sentence structure and grammar)
So is this like a gallery/challenge thread where people post their theme creations, or a contest thread where they submit anonymously and people vote for them?
Theme challenges are totally doable.
There was an advertising blurb I read once about an author, I believe it was Ray Bradbury, and his children would put different things on a mantel and he would work them into his bedtime story for them. They were selling a miniature storage mantel that had various small doll-house items tucked inside in little cubbyholes.
We could do something similar - put up a handful of images and ask them to write about it.
ALJ - Expendable's Labyrinth of Dreams
Creative Writing: Something Fun
Expendable's Little Blue Box
i love the mantel idea of writing in those things
yeah, i thought that one sounded good too
could go for writing or drawing as well
The theme is certainly good for visual art, colour scheme themes monthly would be a good idea.
For writing challenges, maybe have 3 random words and ask people to create a piece with those words in somewhere taking them as inspiration. You could make the one thread but have two seperate categories.
I want that mantle. Pity I have no idea who was offering it. But now I want to break out of here just to go to Michael's to pick and choose little pieces to tuck away for inspiration.
There was also a card game with a similar idea called "Once Upon A Time."
We can also do an inspiration thread.
Pick a song and see what you write/create? It's what I did with my story Braincell, I wrote it while listening to Evanescence - Bring Me To Life.
We could pick the song or have them do it.
