I love Star Trek, it spin-offs and films. I'm not a huge fan of the Kelvin timeline, but I deal with it as Star Trek isn't just reserved for one generations interpretation. TOS is in no way like TNG and that seems to work out well for the fandom. I know that more than a few people who are "Trek" fans have slated the new series, but by doing so have missed the point, star trek is back on television, and like it's predecessors it's pushing boundaries of social norms, like a woman and a black woman in a command position, along with breaking down stereotypes and regressive views. In some senses Star Trek is a huge part of why we are so much more relaxed today than we were then, although we seem to be regressing again, but this isn't a political thread so meh. Have you watched star trek, to which generation do you prefer to associate yourself with? If you haven't what would help you watch it, basically let's talk.

That's a loaded question since there are so many different ones. I really like generations though. I have watched them all except the one there currently doing that I haven't watched at all, but I've seen some bits and pieces of it.

Mid/Late DS9 > TNG > TOS = TAS > Voyager > early DS9 > Enterprise I watched the first episode of Discovery and gave exactly 0 shits to continue following it on CBS' dumb streaming service. Seemed every bit as mediocre as Enterprise. Early DS9 is so damn hard to get through. If Sisko has hair, I don't care. Movies: 2 > 3 > 1 > 8 > 7 > 9 > 4 > 10 > 6 > 5 Kelvin: 2009 > Beyond > Into Darkness But honestly most of the movies just aren't good. I mean, 3 is the second best one, and it's still not that great. I only rank 7 as high as I do because of Soran. Great villain trapped in an abysmal shitshow of a movie. Otherwise it'd be down there with 5 and 6. The two Wrath of Khan knockoffs are both awful and I really hope we never get another. Ranked Kelvin separately. But I guess in comparison to the original timeline movies, I'd probably have 2009 and Beyond around the middle with 8 and 9, and Into Darkness would be next to 10.
I'd have 8 above 1 and 1 closer to the bottom. I see 2-4 as a trilogy that really needed to be watched as one narrative so I kinda put them together in any ranking Discovery is an ok series it's above season 1-2.5 of Ds9 and to be fair enterprise got better the longer it ran. Which was a shame that it got cancelled as it turned good
I love trek! I was introduced on VOY but it would be a toss up between that and TNG for me. I really love episodes that explore the inner workings of a ship. There was a VOY episode which really got down and into the lower ranks, showing a little into their lives and the roles they play. It was unfortunate that it didn't work on that more or there aren't as many episodes that introduce you to the every day lives of the crew. I wouldn't say I dislike any and I've been following discovery. It's different but I enjoy it. I think a lot of the problem (not just with star trek) is that people will expect it to be the same in a lot of ways. I watch it for what it is instead of comparing it to star trek in general. It's a show, just enjoy it for what it is.

I personally think 1 is one of the better written movies (except some of the dialog, which is further hindered by campy/wooden acting), but it's not exactly the most watchable one either. I rewatch it less than several of the movies I ranked below it. I see 2-4 as a trilogy that really needed to be watched as one narrative so I kinda put them together in any ranking I would agree 2-4 are a trilogy, but I just can't put it on the same level as 2 and 3, because frankly it feels more like 5 and 6 to me. I'm personally fine with the narrative ending where 3 does. I've always felt people only give 4 a pass for its camp value. Discovery is an ok series it's above season 1-2.5 of Ds9 and to be fair enterprise got better the longer it ran. Which was a shame that it got cancelled as it turned good In fairness I probably shouldn't have put Enterprise below early DS9. I think "got better the longer it ran" applies to every Trek series, honestly. Except maybe TOS/TAS, since that didn't last long and was fairly consistent. But DS9 (especially), Voyager, Enterprise and even TNG were mostly better during their mid/late runs than they were early on.
I loved Star Trek IV, its not the best but it certainly ranks highly and it raised awareness for the whales and has helped put an end to commercial whaling. And Spock mind melds with a freaking whale, there is time travel, "hello computer" and so much more. I think you need to get back and watch it again.
I also love Star Trek. Mostly agree with Citizen's ordering, except I prefer Voyager over TOS. I also watch Discovery and would have it dead last after Enterprise. For the movies, First Contact is my favourite then Khan. 9 and 4 were pretty good too but never really cared for the others. I'm very excited for Tarantino's movie but a bit wary over the new Picard series as the people currently handling Star Trek seem to be ruining it. Since someone was bound to bring it up, I'm loving The Orville. I see that as taking on social issues in a much better way than Discovery.

Im a massive star trek fan as you may or may not of noticed lol but im loving Discovery especially season 2 though the first season was slightly on the slow side at first but i think every series did have a first season that was a little slow to start with but as you say its star trek on tv again after 15 years but im super glad its not died off for good.
Finally another trek fan who gets it. I quite enjoyed the last two weeks, they have been especially exciting
@thederus oh yes totally iv just caught up with the last 3 episodes today after returning home today after my 2 weeks holiday since it wasnt on Netflix in America and i totally agree the last two episodes were amazing.
Feel like I belong here. Star trek has always been ahead of social norms, favourite series is TNG but my favourite overall character is Garak. However that was probably because DS9 spent time on standalone episodes for a greater overall story. I dont particularly enjoy TOS but I appreciate how groundbreaking it was back in the day. I've been exposed to a lot of hate over Discovery and I really dont get why.

Don't know about a particular generation/show/movie etc. Although the old original Star Trek series was on youtube so I got to see all the episodes of that, they might still be up for all I know (youtube is funny that way). The latest re-boot movies I've seen were quite fun.
Yes the reboot movies were good. Cumberpatch played such an evil person in kahn, not to mention he's hot.
We also have the picard trailer out which I'll post later, I'm maybe a little ovet excited but hey I love trek
