Yes it's been foreshadowed since season one, but she's always been about freeing people and getting upset when innocent people die, then suddnely KAMBLAMO I'm gunna kill all these innocent people! Ando don't even get me started on Cersei's death >
I think the difference was she had no stake in those other places and the common people all adored her the moment she showed up and freed them. From the very start various characters were telling her the people of Westeros will embrace their true Queen with open arms when she arrived. Rationally she probably knew that was bollocks but constantly being told that as a child probably stuck in her subconscious. So when they wouldn't open the gates of King's Landing that triggered her latent family madness gene.

Jamie and Cersei are my favourite pair, I don't think I could have hoped for a better ending for them

I didn’t watch it- so can’t comment- but I know a lot of people were complaining. But then again, like you said, expect the unexpected

So, it was a dance with dragons, it was what I considered a major plot twist in the book

*sighs* all was good and great all except for the 8th season... I mean the GGRM himself did say they can expand to 13 seasons but I guess the showrunners have lives too lol

There's five of them, but they're all like, 1000 pages, at least from what I remember. I think some editions do split the books up though, so there are more volumes.

Ah! That's why I think there are so many volumes. But yes, I can imagine they are extremely long
