It's a fantasy story about an alternate world, where everyone has a "daemon", which is like part of the person, in the shape of animals, while you are a kid the daemon can change shapes, but once you grow up, at a certain point, the daemon settles into a permanent shape.
the story itself follows Lyra, which is a kid that grew up in Jordan college, on a journey to the north, to save her friend who was kidnapped, and in the way she discovers more about the world, herself, and the magisterium, the church that controls her world.

and also, from the second book she also travels to parallel worlds (in the TV series they have the parallel worlds from the start)

I wasn't gunna watch this, but then I realised Lin Manuel Miranda was in it, and my brother said he was enjoying it, so heck I might just give it a go!
